Excursions and walks in San Cassiano

Alta Badia: Südtirol's walkers' paradise

Both in summer and winter Alta Badia is known for its panoramic walks, for its breath-taking views and of course for the Dolomites and its UNESCO sites. There are two parks where you'll find the best excursions, treks and walks. The Puez-Geisler and the Fanes-Sennes-Prags nature parks, both easily reachable from San Cassiano.

Amongst the most beautiful walks and excursions in San Cassiano we would recommend the larch trail "Trù di Lersc", the excursion from capanna alpina towards Fanes, a walk on the meadows at Störes and Pralongiä, the Kaiserjägerweg path to Lagazuoi and the sunset on Sass de Stria

Excursion to Sass de Stria

Its name translated from Ladin means 'Sasso di Strega' (witches' rock). It's a peak that’s easily reachable from Passo di Valparola which is just before Passo Falzarego. Sass de Stria was once an Austrian fortress, one of the protagonists of the battles between the Austrians and the Italians in the Great War. Just after the start of the climb you can notice the trenches, the remains of the soldiers' dwellings and the real tunnels into the rocks. An open air museum which you can access with the help of ladders and bridges. In just an hour and with only 300 m of difference in altitude it's possible to reach the peak, which makes it the perfect peak for those who want to enjoy a sunrise or sunset amidst the Dolomites. On Sass de Stria in summer the view and the sunset truly are an unforgettable experience.
